Genesis 2:24

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

1 Corinthians 13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

A wedding is a wonderful thing - so we will do all that we can to make the wedding day as special as it can be - but a marriage is even better!

The reason for that, according to what God says in the Bible, is that a marriage is supposed to point to something extraordinary, where the husband reminds the wife of the love of Jesus, and the wife reminds the husband of the love of the Church.

This means that we are happy to provide as much help as we can for any couple who are thinking about getting married at Enderby.

We are always very pleased when a couple comes along wanting to be married in their parish church. We work hard to make the ceremony memorable for them, treating the event and the nature of their new commitment very seriously.

Normally, at least one person of the couple should reside in the parish or be listed on its electoral roll for a marriage to take place. Special arrangements can sometimes be made for a couple who do not live here, but have strong family links with the church and parish. (Click here to see a map of the parish)

From the first meeting comes an invitation to our annual marriage preparation course. Most couples take up this opportunity, welcoming the chance to stand back and take stock of the quality of their relationship and the nature of the new commitment they are making in marriage.

After that, it is on to the wedding - as well as providing the building and the services of an officiating Minister, Enderby Church can offer couples other arrangements, including an Organist, the Choir, Floral Settings, and a fine send off from our Bells.

The fees payable for these arrangements and the service are discussed at the first meeting with our minister.

But our longing is not only for a wonderful wedding - but for a memorable and life-changing marriage, with the love of Jesus at the centre.
