Dear Friends,

Teamwork

We have just come to the end of an exhausting but brilliant week in which a large number of volunteers (of all ages) have all been a part of to quote a well known song, “God’s amazing plan”.

I refer to another year of the Holiday Bible Club (HBC) in which the churches of Enderby united yet again to host this special time of fun, creativity and worship for the young of our village.

It was a privilege to have been part of a team working together in many varied ways to bring the Word of God to these youngsters.  The children amazed us by their enthusiasm, creativity and individuality – we are truly blessed to have such talented children in our midst.  It was also wonderful to welcome them and their families to the combined HBC Sunday service at the end of that week.

Working as part of a team and looking out for one another is paramount in Christian life but has never been more in evidence than during the last year at Enderby and Thurlaston.

As we look forward to soon welcoming our new Minister, Jerry, we give thanks to God for all members of our congregations who have worked tirelessly and selflessly in leading services, housekeeping, and all the other “behind the scenes” activities that are part and parcel of a busy church life.

Being thrust so abruptly into an interregnum, after several years of strong leadership, many things could have happened to our church family.  Faith could (and possibly has been) put to the test, people may have felt the mainstay of the church to have gone, and that there was nothing left for them here.  But God has been good to us, and given us strength and, in this time of uncertainty, has brought us closer to Him and to one another.

Yours thankfully, Rachel Hussain

From Our Regular Contributor

They say that “Patience is a virtue”, but sadly there seems little of it in our society today where the ‘must have it now’ syndrome is now common.  How often in our own lives do we find ourselves being impatient because we are trying so hard to get things done, we haven’t time to stop and take in the beauty and wonders of things around us?  “The coral- coated ladybird the velvet humming bee”, as mentioned in a well loved hymn.

The Cinque-foil flower on the edge of the path, such a little thing, but so pretty, with an intense yellow face.  The baby blue-tits all a twitter as they emerged from their nest box, the blue balls of fluff flitting from branch to branch, their parents desperately trying to push grubs down there gaping beaks.  Lots of bees and fragile hoverflies taking the nectar from hundreds of delicate flowers.  We tried to take photographs of the bees and the butterflies in our garden but the wind was blowing and it was almost impossible to get a good image.  Thankfully, with much effort, we eventually succeeded.

Life takes many twists and turns and things we planned go ‘hay-wire’.  The wind may blow too hard and destroy our hopes, but, then just a gentle breeze comes and gives a special beauty – shadows dancing round a room, or the harvest fields gently swaying looking almost like a lake, cooling us down after the heat of the day.

We find a gentle peace amid the hustle and bustle, a calmness after the strife.  God pours His love upon the troubled waters and grants us a new vision.  one of hope, trust and that love which is available for all – Let that tranquillity enfold you.

Colossians 1 v.11: “Growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience and joyfully giving thanks to the FATHER...”

Our Preaching Programme for the autumn:
FRAIL PEOPLE; FAITHFUL GOD
David as King; from Chronicles 1

First Chronicles – what’s that?  Well, during this autumn we are following King David through this book in the Bible.  Events and episodes in the reign of King David were selected and written for the encouragement of the Jewish people who had suffered 70 years in exile in Babylon (modern Iraq) and were returning to their own land, Israel.  We find that God’s promises to David hold firm, that God’s Covenant is secure and that God calls his people to listen, trust and obey.  May it be of real encouragement to us – and a challenge too!
