Since the 17th century the vicars of Enderby did not have a vicarage (many were absent and so did not need one). After 1824 the Rev. Newbys used "Hill House" as their residence, after which a vicarage was built next to the Church. |
Charles Brooke also had a new vicarage built at the same time as Enderby Church was restored. A new vicar, George Edwards, lived in it, whilst the Rev. Newby went to Whetstone (The benefice was split between Enderby and Whetstone at this time) |

Enderby Church ran two of the villages schools whilst it made sure that a Sunday School was provided. The "scholars" of the Sunday school were photographed in their Sunday best in 1905. |
This is the earliest picture we have of Enderby Church choir, here sitting with the Rev. Frewen Aylward. They are wearing surplices which were introduced in 1892 with some opposition. To read about it Click Here. |

Enderby Church's patron saint is St John the Baptist, whose saints day is 24th June. On that day each year, the congregation would process down to the site of the 13th century Church to celebrate a special service. |
The patronal service was held on the site of a Medieval Church in the parish that was abandoned in 1270, St John's Aldeby. All that was left of the Church was a field next to the River Soar with a cross to mark the site of the Church. |
